At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Our extension class encourages curiosity and motivates learners to be courageous, creative, and work collaboratively. We provide safe and inclusive learning environments to build resilience while engaging deeply with rigorous challenges. We are committed to developing capable learners enabling them to contribute positively to our community.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire

access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.

At Strathfield South High School, we want every student to feel supported, challenged and confident in their learning. Our High Potential and Gifted Education approach helps students stretch their abilities, try new things and achieve their personal best.

We create a positive and encouraging classroom environment where students feel safe to ask questions, think deeply and try their best.
Teachers adjust lessons to suit different learning needs, offering extra challenges or extension tasks for students who are ready to go further.
Students work together and take on leadership roles, helping them build confidence, teamwork and responsibility.
Feedback is clear and strengths-focused, so students understand what they are doing well and how they can improve.
Learning activities build creativity, problem solving and critical thinking, giving students the chance to explore new ideas.

Leadership opportunities
Students can take part in SRC, Peer Support, House Captains and help lead important school events. These roles build responsibility, teamwork and pride.
Academic support and extension
We offer homework help, study sessions, enrichment activities so students can challenge themselves and stay on track with their learning.
STEM and technology experiences
Students can get involved in hands-on STEM projects and creative problem-solving challenges.
Creative and performing arts
Our students can shine through music, drama and our CAPA Performance Showcase, where talent is celebrated and encouraged.
Sport and wellbeing
Students can take part in sports carnivals, team events and wellbeing programs that help them stay active, healthy and confident.
Pathways for the future
We provide guidance on careers, study skills and pathways, helping students plan for senior school, TAFE, university or work.

Across NSW

At Strathfield South High School, students can take part in a range of state-wide opportunities that help them grow, build confidence and represent our school across NSW. These include performing in events like joining Knockout sports teams, participating in the Premier’s Sporting Challenge, entering debating, public speaking and academic competitions, and taking part in leadership, STEM and creative programs. These experiences allow students to explore their interests, develop new skills and proudly showcase their talents beyond the classroom.
