High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.
Our extension class encourages curiosity and motivates learners to be courageous, creative, and work collaboratively. We provide safe and inclusive learning environments to build resilience while engaging deeply with rigorous challenges. We are committed to developing capable learners enabling them to contribute positively to our community.

What is high potential and gifted education?
High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
At Strathfield South High School, we want every student to feel supported, challenged and confident in their learning. Our High Potential and Gifted Education approach helps students stretch their abilities, try new things and achieve their personal best.
- We create a positive and encouraging classroom environment where students feel safe to ask questions, think deeply and try their best.
- Teachers adjust lessons to suit different learning needs, offering extra challenges or extension tasks for students who are ready to go further.
- Students work together and take on leadership roles, helping them build confidence, teamwork and responsibility.
- Feedback is clear and strengths-focused, so students understand what they are doing well and how they can improve.
- Learning activities build creativity, problem solving and critical thinking, giving students the chance to explore new ideas.
- We offer enrichment and extension opportunities, including STEM activities, creative projects, academic competitions and cultural programs.
- We celebrate growth and effort, helping students see their progress and aim high.
